Hemp oil is used in many industrial products such as laundry detergent. Hemp oil is made by cold pressing the hemp seeds.(1)
Advantages:
Hemp detergent provides softer and stronger clothing. It biodegrades naturally in our water systems.(2)
Disadvantages:
Due to controlled production of hemp, the demand is less compared to other commodity crops.(3)
History:
In the 1990’s Europe brought hemp oil to their personal care products. The first hemp oil-based detergent was marketed in Germany.(4)
Looking to the Future:
Hemp market has the potential for significant growth since consumer demand for organic and natural sustainable products are increasing. Further research is needed to improve harvest and to continue long term sustainable production and economic vitality.(5)
