How it’s Made:
Hemp backpacks are made using extracted hemp fibers. The stems are soaked in water for twenty days and after this period stems are boiled in ash water. To produce thin layers stem is separated from the water. After processing the raw materials, the thin sheets are ready for stitching to desired bag size.(1)
Advantages:
Hemp bags are made out of hemp fibers that are free from toxins. It is breathable and antibacterial and are mold and mildew resistant.(2)
Disadvantages:
To make hemp bags, large quantity of raw hemp materials is being use thus making the production expensive.(3)
History:
Hemp fabric has developed a lot ever since it started 10,000 years ago. Remnants of hemp cloth was found in Iraq that had been spun around 8000 BC.(4)
Looking to the Future:
The possibility for hemp fabrics are immense in the future. Hemp having a vast potential to be produced cheaply, it will eventually supersede cotton, linen and polyester.(5)
