Description:

Products that come from the environment, such as hemp are definitely game-changers. Straws that are being manufactured from hemp provides durability which secures they don’t fall apart and not leave an after-taste.

How it’s Made:

The fibers in the stem used for clothing and the hurd are shredded down and made into paper. From paper it is made into a straw.(1)

Advantages:

Unlike ordinary paper straws, hemp straws are strong and durable. A very good alternative to paper straws.(2)

Disadvantages:

Hemp straw production cost is relatively too high. If it is not properly manufactured there is a tendency that it can still contain toxic harmful byproducts such as coloring or toxic polymers. It is also hard to find in the market.(3)

History:

Historians inform us that the world’s earliest paper was made by the Chinese from hemp fibers nearly 2,200 years ago around 150 BCE. It spread from China to the Middle East and then to the rest of the world. All paper used in the world was hemp paper till 1883.(4)
