Description:

Hemp mulch is a popular garden bedding that helps in water absorption. It is the same as any other mulch only that hemp fibers add extra nutrients to the garden soil.

How it’s Made:

The stalks of the industrial hemp plant are the main mulch material for the hemp mulch. Small wood chipper that can be rented in hardware stores is used to generate mulch from the source.(1)(2)

Advantages:

Hemp mulch is super absorbent that it can absorb up to around 50% more than traditional mulches. Your dollar goes an extra mile if you used hemp mulch and this is the biggest benefit hemp mulch can give.(3)

Disadvantages:

Because hemp mulches are super absorbent, mulch warms up quickly than a naked soil in winter’s end.(4)

History:

Industrial hemp was traditionally cultivated as a fiber source with a long history with human civilization usually found near early nomadic settlements close to streams in well-manured areas.(5)

Looking to the Future:

Industrial hemp is a very versatile product with many potential uses thus the policy of hemp cultivation is expected to change at the state and federal levels over the coming years.(6)
